The Brewers WIN the 2009 SoCo NABA Championship!

This past Saturday was a beautiful day for baseball as the Brewers took on the Bombers for the Souther Colorado NABA Championship at Security Service Field, home of the Sky Sox.  This was a re-match from a week before when the Brewers beat the Bombers in the semifinals.  This game also pitted the same starting pitchers against one another, Rob Weins for the Bombers and Nick McCann for the Brewers.  The game started off very similar to the prior week with a leadoff double by the Bombers, followed by 2 straight outs, then an RBI single by Weins giving the Bombers an early 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first, the Brewers looked as if they were going to answers after Reynes grounded out... Behan singled then stole second base with F. Vaughn coming to the plate.  Unfortunately, Behan got picked off second, followed by a F. Vaughn ground out to end the threat.  The Brewers did however answer in the 2nd, after a leadoff single by Goldberg, a Gossage double and a walk by Nuss loaded the bases bringing Hartman to the plate.  After scorching on pitch foul down the right field line, Hartman ended up getting hit by the pitch bringing in Goldberg and tying the game 1-1.  The Brewers took the lead in the 3rd when Reynes lead off the inning with a single and scored on a Behan double... Behan then came around to score, as the ball got thrown away as the Bombers were trying to make a play on him sliding into second.  On the mound, McCann was doing his thing after a rocky first not giving up a hit over the next 4 innings, while striking out 7.  In the 5th, the Brewers added a 4th run after Wood lead the inning off with a walk.  The next two batters got out, bringing F. Vaughn to the plate.  F. Vaughn then laced a screamer into the right-center field gap bringing Wood around to score making the score 4-1... Over the final 3 innings the Brewers bats were unfamiliarly silent only getting one more hit, a double by Cortez.  Meanwhile the Bombers made it interesting in the top of the 8th with 2 leadoff hits, a single and a double... making it second and third with no outs.  McCann then struck out the next batter, but gave up a single to the fourth hitter of the inning scoring 2 runs making it 4-3... McCann was able to finish the 8th, getting the next batter to fly out to center then handing the next batter the hat trick, striking him out for the 3rd time on the day.  In the Bottom of the 9th, with the score 4-3.  The Brewers brought in their closer Meals to shut the door... Meals struck out the first batter of the ninth and got the second to pop out... bringing up the possible final batter of the game.  Meals struck him out with overpowering fast-balls, with the last pitch of the regular season registering 92 MPH on the stadium radar gun.  The Brewers rushed the field in celebration of winning their first SoCo NABA Championship in their first year winning 22 games in a row.
